5 Things That Shouldn't Influence Which Home You Buy
All too often, there are easy-to-fix surface issues with a home that might keep a prospective buyer from purchasing it, but this isn’t always the best move. If something doesn’t actually affect the structural integrity of the home and is just a nuisance or not pleasant to look at, you can easily fix it without spending a ton of money. Don’t let these simple issues stop you from buying a home you otherwise love.
Unfortunate Carpeting
Carpet in general can be a big turnoff to buyers, especially if it’s particularly well-worn or overused. But it shouldn’t send you running. It’s easy to spruce up a carpet with a proper carpet cleaner, and it won’t cost you much to rent one and do it yourself. You can also get rid of the carpeting entirely. You may even come across beautiful hardwood hiding underneath.
Ugly Paint or Wallpaper
It’s been said before, but don’t let that mismatched paint stop you from buying a home. It’s one of the cheapest, easiest things to fix yourself in your home. It’s not hard to strip wallpaper either. These are not reasons to throw away your dream home.
Unattractive Gardens
If a garden area is dried out or filled with weeds and dead plants, don’t let the owner’s lack of a green thumb scare you away. Again, with a little effort on your part, you can fix it up and have beautiful plants and flowers growing in no time.
Scuffs on the Walls and Baseboards
It might look unsightly and give the home an aged quality, but again, it’s an easy fix. With a little elbow grease and the right cleaning supplies, you can have it looking brand new. And if you’re planning to paint over it anyway, it really shouldn’t be a deterrent.
Holes in the Wall
While a big hole might make you wonder what happened while the previous homeowners were living in the space, it shouldn’t stop you from buying. Patching a hole, or various small holes, is a simple task that can be completed for almost no money and in very little time.
