How to Beautifully Take Your Wine Cellar Out of Hiding

by Terry Kruse

While every high-end home should have a wine cellar, modern designers are choosing to use homeowners’ incredible wine selections as a showpiece—a way to add to the decor and beauty of a home rather than be hidden away until consumption. Here are a few interesting options to consider when designing your home.

Wine Bar
In the same space where you have your home bar, dedicate a wall to displaying your wine. A good designer will know exactly how to make it visually impactful while still maintaining the integrity of the wine.

Wine Room
If you want to take it up another level, consider a full room dedicated purely to your wine collection. It should have the proper temperature and humidity control, and tables, chairs and the glassware to make it the perfect room to host intimate celebrations.

Butler’s Pantry
If you’re not a serious wine aficionado but still want a beautiful way to display a smaller collection in an easy, temperature-controlled way, consider installing a Butler’s Pantry. Still gorgeous, but it doesn’t take up more space than necessary.

Modern
For those who collect a wide variety of wine, a nice way to store it without the old-school feel of a classic cellar is by creating beautifully labeled shelving, with each section dedicated to a different grape variety. Your guests will be impressed, and it will be incredibly easy to find exactly what you’re looking for when they’re over.
